X Introduces AI-powered Translation and Photo Editing Features

published on 10 April 2026

In a significant upgrade to its platform, X Corp, led by Elon Musk, has unveiled two new features powered by its generative AI tool, Grok. The new tools, automatic language translation and AI-driven photo editing, are designed to enhance user accessibility and interaction on the platform.

Grok-powered Automatic Translation

Grok

The automatic translation feature, announced by X product head Nikita Bier, allows users to translate tweets into hundreds of global languages, including English, Hindi, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Turkish. Additionally, the feature supports several Indian languages such as Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Marathi, expanding its reach among regional audiences.

Users can now translate tweets they encounter in unfamiliar languages with just a few steps. By tapping "Show Translation" above a tweet, users can view the translated message. Moreover, a settings option allows users to enable automatic translation for specific languages, making the process seamless. Commenting on the global rollout, Bier stated:

"We're rolling out auto-translate worldwide to give posts in any language global reach on X. The translations are powered by Grok and have improved substantially over the last couple months. If you prefer to read in the original language, you can always turn off auto-translate."

Advanced Photo Editing with AI

X has also introduced a Grok-powered photo editing feature, offering users advanced capabilities directly within the app. This tool allows users to edit photos by drawing, adding text, or using AI commands to make modifications. The editor can understand and execute complex queries, providing tailored edits based on user instructions. Additionally, users can add a blur effect to obscure specific sections of an image if needed.

Bier highlighted the feature’s new capabilities, stating:

"Ladies and gentlemen, we're launching a brand new Photo Editor in our post composer. It has long-overdue features like drawing & text. But we also included special add-ons that are unique to X: β€’ Edit with words, powered by Grok β€’ Add a blur to redact parts of the photo."

As of now, the photo editing feature is exclusively available on iOS devices, with plans to release it for Android in the coming weeks.

Concerns Over Misuse

Despite the advancements, concerns remain about the potential misuse of these tools. The platform has faced criticism in the past, particularly regarding the use of generative AI to edit images inappropriately. While the rollout of the photo editing tool is a step forward technologically, it remains unclear whether X has implemented measures to prevent the creation of explicit or harmful content using the feature.

The new updates underscore X Corp's push to integrate innovative AI technologies within its platform, aiming to enhance the user experience. At the same time, the company faces pressure to ensure these tools are responsibly deployed to avoid ethical and regulatory challenges.
