Elon Musk-owned X Corp has introduced two major updates to its social media platform, aiming to enhance user experience with cutting-edge artificial intelligence. The new features, announced by the companyβs product head Nikita Bier, include automatic language translation and the Grok AI-powered photo editing tool.
Expanding Global Communication With Auto-Translation
The automatic translation feature, powered by X Corp's proprietary generative AI bot, Grok, supports hundreds of global languages. Users can now seamlessly translate posts into various languages, including English, Hindi, French, Spanish, Japanese, Turkish, and several Indian languages such as Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Marathi.
To use the translation feature, users can simply tap "Show Translation" above a post written in a foreign language. The platform also allows users to enable automatic translation for specific languages via a settings option. According to Nikita Bier, "Weβre rolling out auto-translate worldwide to give posts in any language global reach on X. The translations are powered by Grok and have improved substantially over the last couple months. If you prefer to read in the original language, you can always turn off auto-translate."

Grok-Powered Photo Editing Tool

In addition to language translation, X Corp has launched an AI-powered photo editing feature within the platform. The tool, available on the iOS app for now, enables users to enhance images with advanced capabilities such as drawing, adding text, and executing edits through complex text prompts. This feature is expected to extend to Android devices in the coming weeks.
The Grok AI-based editor can also blur parts of an image to redact sensitive information. Highlighting the uniqueness of the tool, Nikita Bier stated, "Ladies and gentlemen, weβre launching a brand new Photo Editor in our post composer. It has long-overdue features like drawing & text. But we also included special add-ons that are unique to X: β’ Edit with words, powered by Grok β’ Add a blur to redact parts of the photo."
Addressing Potential Concerns
While these updates showcase the platformβs technological advancements, the new photo editing capabilities have raised concerns about potential misuse. Instances of generative AI being used to create explicit or manipulated images have drawn criticism in the past, particularly on X. It remains unclear whether the platform has implemented sufficient safeguards to prevent such misuse with this latest rollout.
These updates represent X Corp's continued push to leverage artificial intelligence to improve user experience and expand global communication. However, the effectiveness of its regulatory measures will likely come under scrutiny as these tools are adopted by users worldwide.
